Managing the Serial Console Banner

On a Roving Edge device, the serial console banner is a message that's displayed each time you attempt to sign in to the device. Typically this message contains information regarding the nature of the device, including any rules and restrictions for its use. By default, the banner consists of the following message:

Oracle Roving Edge enables you to deploy Oracle Cloud Infrastructure services
at the edge, supporting workloads where data is generated and consumed,
regardless of WAN connectivity.
While Oracle provides the infrastructure, you are responsible for maintaining an
active OCI tenancy, ensuring proper software licensing, configuring and updating
software, managing resources, securing your applications and data, and handling
backups and restores. You must maintain compatible networks and systems, as
Oracle is not liable for network connectivity or related issues. Unlimited usage
of assigned resources is included as long as you have active Universal Credits
or a Funded Allocation entitlement.

You can run different commands to administer the device banner, including changing the message.

  1. Connect to the serial console. See Operating the Serial Console.
  2. If the serial console screen is locked, enter the passphrase to access the menu.
  3. Select the Advanced Menu > Banner Management menu option. The following options are displayed:

    • Display Banner: Displays the current banner information.

    • Update Banner: Creates a new banner message. Enter the message you want to replace the current banner.

    • Disable/Enable Banner: Disables the banner, or re-enables the banner if it is currently disabled. If the banner is disabled, you are prompted to enter your password when you attempt to log into the device with no banner message appearing.

    • Reset Banner: Reverts the banner message to the default banner that came with the device.

  4. Enter the number for the option you want to perform.
